Family court

This week we go to family court to review our foster child's case. He's been with us for almost a year now, and in foster care for 14 months. New York state law is that if a child is in foster care for 15 out of 22 months, that child's parent's parental rights should be terminated. It will be interesting to see what happens. My guess is that since we are just a bit shy of the 15 months, the judge will grant another six months of "trying" for the parents. It is such a hard situation all the way around, but dragging it on and on is just so hard... I applaud people who are able to provide foster care for years. This has been a wonderfully rewarding year, but it is definitely much more of a rollercoaster than I could have imagined too. I have to remind myself that our job is to love this little person with Jesus' love for as long as he's with us, just like our own children. We have no guarantees of tomorrow with anyone really. Love, trust, and pray....
